The Martino Abellana Estate

Vision

The Martino Abellana Estate envisions a vibrant Cebuano arts community rooted in the mastery, integrity, and cultural pride embodied by Martino Abellana. Through the preservation of his works, the education of emerging artists, and the promotion of Cebu’s artistic heritage, the estate seeks to inspire generations to create, to honor their roots, and to share the richness of Cebuano culture with the world.

About the Estate

The Martino Abellana Estate represents the ongoing stewardship of one of Cebu’s most formative artists. Established through the continued efforts of the Abellana family, it carries forward the painter’s lifelong devotion to art, education, and community.

Since Martino Abellana’s passing in 1988, his children—led by his eldest daughter, Sr. Gemma Abellana—have maintained his ties with collectors, students, and patrons. Their work has steadily preserved the artist’s presence in the province’s cultural memory.

In 2023, the estate entered a new phase under the direction of his grandson, Kahlil Abellana de Pio, representing the second generation. Through ongoing initiatives in archiving, research, and public programming, the estate continues to formalize its mission to protect and advance the legacy of Martino Abellana for future generations.

Today, the Martino Abellana Estate collaborates with Visayan art and heritage institutions to document, organize, and preserve works held by both the family and dedicated collectors—ensuring that the story of Martino Abellana remains an active part of Cebu’s cultural landscape.
