About Martino Abellana

Martino Alcoseba Abellana was the fourth of seven children, born into a family of artists whose talents spanned from the visual arts to music. His media of choice were oil, pastel, and watercolor. His repertoire integrates classical, impressionist, and realist art styles, which he refined under the mentorship of National Artist Fernando Amorsolo. This tutelage earned him the nickname "The Amorsolo of the South."

A native of Carcar, his works reflected his love for his hometown by the seaside, the laborers, and the Filipino values of family and faith. Over his decades-long career, Abellana's works received both local and international recognition, with notable pieces such as Job Was Also Man, The Rocks, and many others.

As the "Dean of Cebuano Painters," Abellana left an indelible mark on Cebu's regional art scene, laying the foundation for the thriving art community we know today. His legacy lives on through generations of students he taught, many of whom continue to create waves in both the local and international art scenes.
